Parks and a Hero

Does Kidd Kraddick ring a bell to you? He passed away yesterday, he was a radio personality, sweet hearted person, advocate for the disabled and terminally ill kids. I am in shock, I listened to his show in the mornings, he died at a fundraising event for a trip to take 50 disabled or chronically ill children to Disney World. He knew people with disabilities personally, relatives. As one of his fans, he will be missed. https://www.facebook.com/kiddskids
But as some heroes leave to shine elsewhere, others are still here to make a difference. I have been planning to make it out to a very special place. San Antonio is the home to Morgan's Wonderland, a one of a kind place. I'm letting my readers know about it in case you know someone who might like to visit this park. It's a theme park product of a father's love and yearning to make his daughter Morgan, who is disabled, feel included and at home with others like herself. It's not Disney maybe better though ;) They specialize in making visitors around the world plan, feel welcome, included and safe. Take care friends.

A.D.A. Celebration Pics

Hi, today was a hot one here in Texas but not hot enough for me to be a no-show at the A.D.A. celebration held at my city. I said hi to some familiar faces and met new ones as well. I had a good time, despite the heat. Here are some pictures as promised :)

The event was held at the University of Texas of San Antonio.
Exhibitors, staying cool and refreshed, handed out useful information.
Other attendants listened to speakers and stuck around for prize drawings.
There was so much pamphlets and information, bags filled up fast.

Here's me with one of beary nice new friend.
Take care, hope you're having a great weekend!!!

Countdown to Celebrating the A.D.A.

Hello all. This post will unintentionally be targeted mostly to people living in the States. As many of you might know the disabled community has protective laws and equality rights. The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed in July 26, 1990, and now in many cities events are held to celebrate the anniversary.
In my city I have already been invited to a celebration, where a pep rally and education and employment resources from 50 exhibitors will be at hand to provide information or applications for people attending. There will be inspirational speakers and award honorees for their involvement with organizations aimed toward the handicapped.
This will not be my first time attending and I always meet knew faces or run into old friends. I also see great performances from people and groups who they themselves are sometimes disabled. It's a day I get to mingle and feel a camaraderie with others.
Fingers crossed I will be attending this years annual Americans with Disabilities Act celebration too on July 27. I will let you all know how it went and share pictures. It's a meaningful day to educate spectators and the public on how we are willing and hard working people. I support these events because I think its good to let young disabled children and youth know that there is places and people that want to see us play a role in a productive community.
If you didn't know about this Act don't feel bad, I myself didn't know about it for some years, I came to know about it through a support group with a local organization called S.A.I.L.S. They are the organization running the celebration in my city here in Texas.
S.A.I.L.S. is an organization that helps the disabled obtain resources to become independent individuals. Some people I've heard about and might be attending this year, I don't know for certain, is past honorees, whose story and website I want to share with you all. I hope I get to run into them and shake their hand. So find out by calling local organizations in your state to see if there will be an event held and join in the celebration.
I also have other amazing people I want you all to learn about but I think I will save that for later. There is also some personal developments I will soon be able to share too but I will also hold that off, till I get the whole scoop myself.
Thank you all so much for reading and hello to all my new secret readers, please don't be shy to sign up and follow me.

Happy Monday

What's so great about Mondays? you say. Eh, well in my case I didn't struggle too much to get out of bed today, I woke up quite well, already thinking about a festive breakfast to prepare for myself- which turned out savory but not as colorful as I had imagined, which is alright my stomach had no complaints.
Something else I woke up craving was a mini crafting project. How do you feel on the up-cycling/ re-using movement? I think its something worth practicing as often as you can remember. There is this Mexican tamarind candy that is sold in small clay mugs. Having eaten some, there was a couple of empty identical mugs, I repainted one to make it stand out. I think it came out cute and I might use it to store buttons.
Yesterday I found two very inspiring websites aimed toward the disabled community, remember just because one is disabled, it doesn't mean you are alone. I will leave a link to them, they are worth checking out.
Some modifications and rethinking may be needed to make our days active, productive or simply happy but its possible. Hope you're well, thank you to everyone visiting my blog, would love to hear your thoughts.

About Myself

Hi there, my name is Claudia. I'm 29 and I am disabled. I have created this blog to connect with others who are disabled or just someone who wants to read little excerpts about my life. I have muscular dystrophy, I have a tracheotomy tube and scoliosis. Some days I use a electric scooter depending on a trip or how my body feels on a day. Still, I am pretty mobile and independent.
I currently live with my older brother and his family.
I am a creative person who enjoys crafting, drawing, making art and dab into many things linked to such. I go out on occasions to restaurants, open markets and I push myself to meet new people through community groups. I like learning new things, so people tend to ask "what are you up to now?"
I wouldn't say I'm shy but very quiet. I can be a little quirky or silly. People say I am caring and a loyal person. I am also great with the young children in my family, I have none of my own though.
On blogging, I intend to post things about my outings, projects, challenges, triumphs, interests, anything online I find useful, other inspiring people, helpful websites, funny thoughts, motivating exercises or just things worth sharing. I hope to post a couple days a month. If anyone has questions you want me to answer or suggestions on a experience I should learn or try, then write about, let me know, I will do my best. Bye, make sure to subscribe to my blog.
